something to watch
I had the honor of being invited twice as a speaker at Educators’ Day at Spiel Essen. My talks are available on YouTube. If you’re interested in an introduction to my approach, feel free to watch them.

My talk in 2023:
something to read
One of my main motivators is the topic of future skills (you can find more on this under Topics). It’s crucial that we prepare today’s children for tomorrow’s world more effectively than most schools currently do. There are various approaches and examples of this. A few years ago, I compiled both the urgency and effective solutions in an education manifesto for the HABA FAMILYGROUP. Although the document is no longer available on the homepage, it can still be accessed. It’s in German, but I’m happy to assist anyone who needs help with it.
And if you want something more board game related, I recommend the book chapter that my good friend Robin Eckert and I contributed to the ‘Handbuch Brettspiele’ by Jürgen Karla and Christoph Post.
I’ve also found some of the interviews I’ve given over the last few years:
How do you playtest a board game for 5-year-olds? by Charlie Hall for Polygon (German, external link, opens in a new tab)
Interview on Learning Through Play for a HABA Pro content page on How Children Learn Through Play (English, external link, opens in a new tab)
Interview on Role Play, Children and Carnival for a HABA content page on “Today I Am …” – How Children Benefit from Role-playing Games (German, external link, opens in a new tab)
Interview on The Room As a Third Educator for a HABA Pro content page on More Space to Breathe Freely Room Concept Breeze.upp (German, external link, opens in a new tab)
Interview for a dpa’s report by Yuriko Wahl-Immel on World’s largest board game trade fair: “Playing makes learning easier – even at school” (German, external link, opens in a new tab)
Events, talks, workshops
Over the years, I’ve had numerous opportunities to give talks and workshops. I’ll be gradually listing the most significant ones since 2019 here.
I’m almost certain I’ve forgotten some events. Please consider this list as incomplete and a work in progress. If we know from an event that is not listed here, please let me know.
