From my point of view, the people and institutions listed below are doing a fantastic job:

Imagination Gaming

Board games can do so much in the school context and this goes far beyond promoting academic skills. With its innovative school social work, Imagination Gaming shows what is also possible in the area of social, emotional and central-executive skills.

Pen en Pion

If you want to delve deeper into the subject of learning with games, you absolutely must visit Pen en Pion. I was able to learn a lot from Marion myself, although I still needed the help of translation tools from Dutch in some cases. But now both her great website and the equally great magazine are also available in German and English.

Warhammer Alliance

A nice example of how a well-known brand can enhance its own products with a well thought-out, ambitious educational approach. This program btw is at the same time a flagship in demonstrating the educational potential of games.

Gaia Games

A board game publisher with highest standards when it comes to ecology, sustainability and explaining natural interrelationships through board games

[Not] Bored Games

A collective of board game designers with an excellent knack for games that are close to the school content and at the same time have a focus on fun

Zeit für Spiele

The homepage of Ronald Hild, author of great educational board games for schools.

Spiel Klima

A stakeholder network between climate, energy transition and gaming industries

Brettspielakademie

Further education and training as well as information and consulting services for educational institutions on the use of board games

Wir spielen die Zukunft

A research project on the development and transfer of free play impulses for preschool education on digital transformation

EMPAMOS

The EMPAMOS research project has spent years extensively analyzing the Deutsches Spielearchiv’s gigantic collection of board games and has since developed exciting approaches on how to make the mechanical and thematic building blocks of which board games are made usable for other areas.

Das spielende Klassenzimmer

A great German podcast about playing and learning. In addition to their teaching experience, the two Daniels also have very good psychological background knowledge and a strong network of experts in the field.

Bob Blume

Having only heard the name in passing for a long time, my attitude in recent years has quickly developed from curious to convinced to enthusiastic. I find his work very inspiring and can only recommend exploring it.

HABA

HABA has long been known for its games with high educational added value. Anyone who works with children between the ages of 2 and 8 or wants to encourage them at home should therefore keep an eye on the new products and older games from this publisher.

(Disclosure: I worked 5 years for this company.)

HABA Pro

HABA Pro has a wide range of products for the preschool sector. This also includes some wonderful toys (developed together with the University of Bamberg) that enable digital skills to be taught through play using analog means. I am a big fan of these “Digital Starter

(Disclosure: I worked 5 years for this company.)

Psychologie fürs Klassenzimmer

A German Podcast diving deep into the research most relevant for learning in school; always aware of limitations of the study design. For me it’s not only a good rehearsal of things I learned at university but also a great pleasure to hear to-the-point science communication and the busting of still much too common myths.
