I first met Jan-David at Spiel Messe Essen where he provided a very insightful talk around the benefits of play-based learning on youth development. From here Jan-David provided a fantastic further insight into the benefits of the different aspects of the Warhammer Hobby on young people’s development and helped to shape the Warhammer Alliance education support programme, in particular the resources that are created to support educators. Since the collaboration, feedback on the resources has been consistently positive, with many teachers stating that it has helped them to have better conversations with their Senior Leadership Team about using games as an educational tool. I look forward to continuing work with Jan-David on future projects.

We had Jan-David Freund as a guest speaker at our annual general meeting in Bad Rodach (at the HABA company). In addition to business management presentations, decoration suggestions and new product range ideas, it is important for us as an association to keep sharpening the actual core of our business. Why do we sell toys? What makes a really good toy?
Jan-David Freund has twice on this occasion given us an inspiring talk on the value and potential of play. He did a great job of conveying scientifically sound knowledge to us in a lighthearted and easy to grasp manner and provided exciting insights into the development of toys. His presentation on the HABA Familygroup Bildungsmanifest was entertaining and of impressive expertise. Despite their long professional experience, our attending toy retailers were able to take home a lot of useful information – especially in the field of digital toys. The ARS will be contacting Jan-David again in the future and we hope to be able to get him back for future events.

Dr. Freund held a workshop on the “Digital Starter” games from HABA Pro at our Dombühl elementary school. In his presentation, he vividly combined theory and practice. He clearly explained the concept of “ Grasping the Digital by Analog Means” and Computational Thinking and showed practice-oriented ways of integrating digital education into day-to-day primary school teaching. Through his precise explanations and the opportunity to experience the games for themselves, he created an interactive and valuable learning experience. He always answered questions patiently and clearly. This afternoon was very valuable for the whole teaching team and the knowledge gained will certainly be used in our future teaching.
